Help Me Ignite the Potential of Orange County’s Young Readers

As Executive Director of Parentis Foundation, I have the privilege of seeing what happens when a struggling young reader is paired with a caring older-adult mentor. Reading skills improve, confidence grows, and a child begins to believe in what is possible.

Through our nationally recognized Empowering Readers OC program, students in grades 1–5 receive consistent, one-on-one literacy tutoring and mentorship at no cost to their families. This school year, we expect to serve more than 550 young readers across Orange County.

Many of our school and community partners are facing funding challenges that could limit children’s access to the support they need. We may not control school budgets, but we can control how we show up as a community.

Your gift will help us:

- Provide personalized reading support to children who are below grade level
- Recruit and train dedicated older-adult Reading Mentors
- Deliver books, literacy materials, and assessment tools
- Keep tutoring free for participating families
- Help children build the skills and confidence to succeed in school and life

Please join me in ensuring that every child has the opportunity to become a confident, joyful reader.

Together, we can ignite their potential and help prepare Orange County’s next generation of leaders.

With gratitude,
Janice Frechette-Artinger

Parentis Foundation Story

Why It Matters: When school funding gets cut and budgets shrink, who ensures children in Orange County still receive the literacy support they need to thrive? You do. We do. Together, our community does.

The Challenge: This year, some of our program partners, especially those in high-impact communities, have lost the discretionary funding that once supported literacy programs like ours. Without additional support, many children could lose access to the consistent mentorship that helps them grow into confident and joyful readers – and future leaders!

The Solution: Us. We may not control budgets, but we can control how we show up as a community. Together, we can bridge the gap so every child has the chance to succeed.

Every gift matters. Every session matters. Every reader matters.

Will you help us bridge the gap?
