Literacy Opens the Door to Lifelong Opportunity

As an educator and a member of the Parentis Foundation Board of Directors, I understand how deeply literacy influences a child’s success. Reading is more than one subject. It is the foundation for learning, building confidence, and discovering new possibilities.

Through Empowering Readers OC, students in grades 1–5 receive consistent, one-on-one reading support and mentorship at no cost to their families. This school year, we are preparing to serve more than 550 children who are struggling to read.

With many of our school and community partners facing funding challenges, your support is especially important. Together, we can help ensure that every child has access to the encouragement and literacy instruction needed to thrive in school and beyond.

Parentis Foundation Story

Why It Matters: When school funding gets cut and budgets shrink, who ensures children in Orange County still receive the literacy support they need to thrive? You do. We do. Together, our community does.

The Challenge: This year, some of our program partners, especially those in high-impact communities, have lost the discretionary funding that once supported literacy programs like ours. Without additional support, many children could lose access to the consistent mentorship that helps them grow into confident and joyful readers – and future leaders!

The Solution: Us. We may not control budgets, but we can control how we show up as a community. Together, we can bridge the gap so every child has the chance to succeed.
