Where Generations Connect, Everyone Benefits

As a proud member of the Parentis Foundation Board of Directors, I am passionate about programs that create opportunities for young people while giving older adults meaningful ways to share their time, wisdom, and experience.

Empowering Readers OC brings these generations together by pairing students in grades 1–5 with caring older-adult mentors for consistent, one-on-one literacy support at no cost to their families. Children strengthen their reading skills and confidence, while mentors experience renewed purpose and connection through service.

This school year, we are preparing to serve more than 550 young readers. With many of our school and community partners facing funding challenges, your support will help ensure that these life-changing relationships continue to grow.

Please join me in investing in the power of intergenerational connection. Together, we can help children thrive, honor the contributions of older adults, and build a stronger community for every generation.

With gratitude,
Marilyn

Parentis Foundation Story

Why It Matters: When school funding gets cut and budgets shrink, who ensures children in Orange County still receive the literacy support they need to thrive? You do. We do. Together, our community does.

The Challenge: This year, some of our program partners, especially those in high-impact communities, have lost the discretionary funding that once supported literacy programs like ours. Without additional support, many children could lose access to the consistent mentorship that helps them grow into confident and joyful readers – and future leaders!

The Solution: Us. We may not control budgets, but we can control how we show up as a community. Together, we can bridge the gap so every child has the chance to succeed.

Every gift matters. Every session matters. Every reader matters.

Will you help us bridge the gap?
