The lights dim. The curtain may rise and the music begins. Professional dancers take the stage. A new world of movement, creativity, and expression comes to life.

For many of us, a dance class, a performance, or an encounter with the arts opened a door—sparking imagination, purpose, belonging, and possibilities we never knew existed. For some, it has become their career and calling.

For most young people in our diverse communities, access to these valuable experiences is very limited or does not happen at all.

Through Let’s Dance, Backhausdance provides equity and access to the transformative power of dance by bringing professional contemporary dance performances, education, and mentorship directly to youth throughout Orange County. Through school performances, assemblies, master classes, workshops, residencies, and after-school programs, students experience the joy of movement while finding their voice, recognizing their strengths, and building meaningful connections with others.

The Power of Performance.

For most students, a Backhausdance performance is their first introduction to a professional contemporary dance company. They don't simply watch—they meet the artists, learn about the creative process, ask questions, and discover that dance and the arts can be part of their own lives and futures.

A single performance can spark curiosity. A workshop can reveal a hidden talent. A teaching artist can become a mentor. These meaningful encounters can inspire a lifelong appreciation for the arts—or even a future path as a dancer, artist, educator, or creative thinker.

Backhausdance also expands access through the B. Mor Summer Intensive Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance for teens and emerging dancers who are passionate about pursuing advanced training. These scholarships ensure that dedication, commitment, and potential—not financial circumstances—determine who has the opportunity to continue growing as an artist.

Since 2003, Backhausdance has been honored to share the power of contemporary dance with thousands of young people throughout Orange County. Our dancers and teaching artists create meaningful moments of discovery that help young people grow, imagine, and soar to reach their dreams!
